Yes, the rumour mill is rife with talk around the iPhone 16, even when the phones are, at the very least, ten months away from launch! So, what are these new features that could come or are expected to come? We list everything you need to know about the iPhone 16 series in this article.Increased screen sizes
Let’s start with the screen sizes. So, while the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are set to retain the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumoured to feature increased screen sizes, i.e., 6.23 inches and 6.85 inches respectively. This also suggests the weight could increase, as the new Pro models are expected to be taller and wider than the current iPhone 15 Pro models.
Periscope camera
This year, it was only the iPhone 15 Pro Max which got the 5x Periscope camera. But, with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, both phones are rumoured to get Periscope lenses. So, while the 16 Pro could get the same lens as the 15 Pro Max, the 16 Pro Max is rumoured to feature an all-new super periscope lens with notable improvements in focal length and optical zoom capabilities.
Extra capacitive button
With the rumoured extra capacitive button, we will come one step closer to the rumoured buttonless and portless iPhone. So, with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, there could be an all-new capacitive button sitting right below the power button in place of the 5G antenna. The 5G antenna, on the other hand, is expected to move under the volume buttons.
Action buttonSpeaking of the capacitive button, the Action button debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro series. And in 2024, the complete iPhone 16 series, including the Pro models and standard 16 and 16 Plus are expected to sport the Action button. All this is good Apple, but, please add some more functionalities to the Action button. That’s much needed.

The iPhone 16 Pro series will most likely get the A18 Pro chipsets, the natural successor to the A17 Pro SoC, but what about the standard iPhones? Will they get a forked version of the A17 Pro? Rumours suggest that the complete iPhone 16 series is expected to be powered by the A18 series chips, manufactured by TSMC, which could be A18 for standard models and A18 Pro for Pro models. So, while the manufacturing process could be the same for both A18 chips, the A18 Pro chipset could feature an extra GPU or so to justify the Pro moniker.
Stacked batteryMoving on, rumours suggest the iPhone 16 Pro models could use stacked battery technology, which can result in higher capacity and a longer lifespan. And these stacked batteries themselves could come alongside faster 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe wireless charging.

Alright, consider this one a wild rumour because there’s a high possibility that, alongside the four iPhone 16 models, there could be a fifth iPhone 16 Ultra! And, this Ultra iPhone would be positioned as the top-of-the-line offering, and it could feature additional camera improvements, a bigger display, and perhaps even a portless design.
